Little Deer Blog

Big Changes!

There's some big changes happening at Little Deer and we are so excited to share with you.

After a lot of thought we have decided to engage more with the interiors sections of our shop. We will be discontinuing clothing and jewellery and will be welcoming a whole new collection of beautiful homewares and gifts to the store.

We feel particularly drawn to interiors in the last year and feel it's only right to embrace this feeling and to go full steam ahead and concentrate all our inspiration and attention into a more streamlined collection.

Firstly we welcome new brand Madam Stoltz to the shop. Based in Germany Madam Stoltz takes a strong influence from India, with two collections being released every year. Shop Madam Stoltz at Little Deer by clicking here.

We have new designs hitting the shop end of April from our in-house interiors brand. Expect more copper goodies, indoor gardens (perfect for you city dwellers), concrete beauties and macrame.

Spring Summer Interiors Collection Launch

We are so excited to show your our new Spring Summer Collection of Copper & Concrete interiors.

These designs started as sketches by Little Deer director - Jade. Those sketches were developed and perfected over quite a few months by our small team here in our Brighton workshop and here are the final pieces. A collection of planters, rails and tables for your home, shop or studio.

Copper naturally tarnishes and loses its shine and colour over time however all our copper products are treated with a coating to ensure they keep their rose gold colour and shine. This makes our designs unique and extra luxurious. We are experts within copper construction and are happy to answer any of your questions at info@thelittledeer.co.uk

Meet our Studio Manager - River Jade

After Christmas here at Little Deer we not only became a Limited Company but we also opened a new workshop. Just round the corner from our shop/studio this workshop is where we construct our own brand furniture, freeing up the current studio space for laptop work.
This change has been a great development for Little Deer and has meant we are able to take on more bespoke and bulk orders for our copper furniture.

Upon moving into the new workshop we also took on River Jade - our new studio Manager. River stood out to us as a professional individual who is clearly passionate about crafting and creating. Just last summer River got married and made all the decorations for the reception herself.

River is still learning the ropes at the moment but together with Little Deer owner Jade, it's river who makes all your copper furniture orders.
River moved to Brighton for university 8 years ago now and has stayed here ever since! We asked her what it is she loves about Little Deer:

I like the support the company gives to small businesses and up & coming designers. Little deer is an arts community as well as a shopping platform.

River is currently in the process of leaning how to make all of our copper Furniture, with over half the collection already under her belt, she is leaning fast. It's River's job to make sure you get your quality made products within the shortest lead time possible. We asked River which of the Little Deer designs is her favourite:

The piece I really love is the Classic Rail. It's an absolute timeless piece. Elegant, practical and beautiful.

The workshop a little on the cold side at the moment as it is part of a huge industrial warehouse so a good soundtrack is an absolute must while making away and trying to keep warm! We asked River what she's been listing to:

Favourite music to listen to whilst I'm beavering away is defiantly the new Bonobo Album, my fav track is Kerela. Also, Childish Gambino, specifically Redbone. I'm
The sort of person to have a song on repeat so I've probably listened to it about 1000 times but I love it!

Featured Brand - Ethereaia

Ethereaia was founded in 2015 and has been stocked at The Little Deer for just a few months now. The driftwood and other materials that go into making these beautiful wall hangings are sourced carefully by brand owner Nicola. Nicola has to use the internet to find quality driftwood from all over the country and sometimes her family brings driftwood, sea glass and shells back to England from where they live in Mallorca for Nicola to work with.

'The one thing I would love to have is a regular supply of driftwood... if I lived by the coast I could go out and find the driftwood I use in my designs myself. I really hope to achieve this one day.'

Nicola's passion for crafting these bespoke dreamcatchers comes from generations of passionate crafters and artists in her family. Each of Nicola's designs is one of a kind, which is exactly what drew us to her brand in particular. The rustic and bohemian wall hangings are crafted by hand and each one is individual and different.

Our Shop Is Open!

We are so pleased to say we now have a physical shop in Brighton! We recently moved studios and we thought this would be a great opportunity to combine a studio and shop space.

We are in the Open Market in the heart of Brighton, the space is where we design and make our collection of in-house interiors and at the front of the studio we have a shop featuring jewellery, clothing, gifts and homewares made by our collection of independent designers.

Our open evening was a blast! Thank you so much to everyone who came down! We had some lovely cakes made for us by Leila Buffery , drinks and cookies!

We are open Monday - Friday 10am - 5pm. Local customers please feel free to select 'Pick up from our shop' at the checkout when shopping online. This way you don't have to pay for postage.

What's New: Temporary Studio

What a month it's been! At the beginning of this year we got our first very own office space, four months on and we had outgrown this space and needed a studio to make our interiors in as well as desk space to pack orders and work from.

The search was long and we viewed so many unsuitable spaces. After a month or two we came across Blank Studios and the space they offered us couldn't be more suitable!
Sadly the space is only temporary and we have to find somewhere new again in September but for now, it's perfect!

From Blank Studio we will be packing your orders, designing and making our interiors (see the collection here) and doing general laptop work.

We are currently looking for someone to help us with the making of our interiors. Please email us on info@thelittledeer.co.uk if you are interested.

New Brand: Unmentionables

Our ever growing lingerie collection has just seen some beautiful new additions from 'Unmentionables Lingerie' - a new brand to us here at The Little Deer.

Create in 2013, Unmentionables is a small handcrafted lingerie brand, each item lovingly made to order in a home studio here in Brighton. Owner Lucy created the brand from a love of laces and texture. She felt a need for pretty unpadded and comfortable underthings that she felt happy to show off under low slung t-shirts.

Unmentionables is designed for the laid back and stylish and those who love and celebrate their bodies. Positive vibes all round!
